This USA project highlights several reasons why mesh is a smart choice for such an application. The lower weight load avoids building reinforcement being necessary in a lot of cases, the light transparency means the windows behind still get a view to the outside world, the wind resistance load is far less than it would be for a solid surface screen, and the cost per sqm is considerably lower.
